Iron Ball, Slow Motion, and Sand

This incredible, slow-frame clip of a seemingly simple occurrence - that is, an iron ball being dropped into a box of sand — is made incredible through the use of high-speed filming. You’ll want to watch this video, frame-by-frame. The movement emulates the beauty of a dripping droplet of water at slow-motion, but with the added action and excitement associated with the violent eruption of Pinatubo.

In any case, it’s a must-see.

Video Simulation of Flight Traffic in 24 Hours

This 24-hour simulation of global air traffic simulates the pathways of planes, all across the world. Similar to NASA’s incredible night-time image of the world from satellites, this little clip will probably be a classic for years to come.

McCain Attack Ad Skit on SNL

Saturday Night Live lambasted the attack ad format of McCain’s recent campaign team. Included in this video are all of the requisite stereotypes of both Obama and politics in general.

Matt Damon on Vice President Palin Pick

Said Damon to the Associated Press: “It’s like a really bad Disney movie.”

“I know she was a mayor of a really, really small town,” he said.

Damon offered up his assessment, which - to say the least - wasn’t too optimistic about the Republican Veep nominee. He also wanted to query as to whether or not Palin believed “dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago, because she has the nuclear codes.”

Sarah Palin Confuses Taxpayer Funding of Fannie, Freddie

Sarah Palin made her first gaffe, as reported by the Huffington Post. The mortgage giants were instituted by teh government in the 70s, but Palin goes a step further in the following video clip by indicating: “The fact is…” Fannie and Freddie just got “too big and too expensive to the taxpayers.”

McCain is seen standing stage left, at first clapping in agreement to Palin’s comments. But here’s the odd part — McCain, oddly starting to realize Palin’s mistake, begins to slowly ponder its implications. Then, when Palin indicates that the McCain will make them “smaller, smarter,” he looks a bit hesitant to respond to Palin’s Statement.

Oddly enough, Palin has seen little of the media, and few television cameras have recorded her spoken words since her Vice Presidential nomination. Will more gaffes follow? Only time will tell.

Note: the volume on the following video is atrociously low, so you’ll need to turn it up.

Conservatives Accidently Say What they Really Think of Palin

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was the star speaker at last night’s Republican National Convention. Conservatives, on the camera, have nothing but praise for the Veep pick, but what do they really think.  If the unintended off-camera commentary provides any indication, even conservatives don’t have faith in McCain’s pick for Vice President.

At one point, Murphy says: “”I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have picked?”

Noonan responds: “Most qualified? No, I think they went with for this, excuse me, political bull$**t about narratives”

CERN Collider Rap

So the large hadron collider is about to be fired up in France and Switzerland.  The 26-mile oval-like, underground tube will help scientists determine, once and for all, the existence and behavior of anti-matter.

The collider will be switched on on the 10th of September - that is, if a group of irrate scientists, professors, and theorist from Switzerland, Austria, France, and Germany can’t stop the party. These concerned Eurozens think that the dangers of starting of the collider need to be considered more carefully - including the possibility that a black hole could swallow up the Earth. What’s more likely is that the scientists will better understand - and perhaps identify the elusive Higgs Boson particle.

Wind Turbines Explode Bats’ Lungs

Researchers have found that approximately 2/3 of the winged creatures found dead near wind power turbines are bats.  The mystery was how the bats were killed. Most birds are killed from direct hits with the turbines, and often present external injuries, but according to recent findings, bats die due to the blood vessels in their lungs bursting. Find out how this happens in the video below.

Bill Clinton’s Speech at the Convention

Bill Clinton addressed the Democratic National Convention tonight, on the third day of the Denver event. Former president Clinton dovetailed on the riveting speech given by his wife, New York Senator Hillary Clinton.

Clinton’s speech was considered to be the best of the convention, thus far (though, I may contend that Dennis Kucinich’s speech rivals Bill Clinton’s). Whatever the case, fmr. president Clinton’s speech contained some salient quips. The most memorable was this wonderful line, which will likely be recorded in the annals of history: “People the world over have always been more impressed by the power of our example than by the example of our power.”

There was no doubt last night that both Bill Clinton and former opponent Hillary fully support Obama as the next president. Where the election will head from here, nobody knows. See Part 1 below:

Dennis Kucinich Speech at 2008 Dem Convention

The 2008 Democratic National Convention is in full swing. Last night Michelle Obama gave a riveting speech to the throngs of faithful dems in the crowd. Tonight, Dennis Kucinich set the crowd on fire with his admonition to “wake up America.”

As we await the results of the coming speeches in Denver convention, I thought I’d attach a video excerpt of Dennis Kucinich’s speech on Tuesday. To be fair, Kucinich gave one of the best political speeches I have ever heard.
